The Paramount Key To Teaching Your Dog Important Words

Author: Peter Lim

I am not a dog expert, but because I love my pet dogs, I have learnt how to take care of them in the best possible ways throughout all the years.I have a natural affinity to dogs- they are lovely and faithful creatures. Most of all, they are intelligent animals, capable of being trained and made to follow your commands.

Theories aside, I speak from practical experience, having kept and trained a variety of dogs throughout my years of living. I have had a dashund, a chihuahua, an alsatian, a german sheperd, two dobbermans, and a couple of mixed terriers before at various times of my existence.

So I speak from much experience when I reveal how you can teach your dog to obey you. I will show you in no uncertain ways the key to securing your dog's obedience in most situations, and you can teach your dog a trick or two in the process.

Dogs are sensitive and responsive creatures. Like babies, they can recognise short commands. When you wish to teach your dog to obey you in whatever circumstances, use short, terse commands- and in the correct tone.

If you are angry, and wish your dog to stop doing something nasty, such as gnawing away your shoe, say "NO!"in a commanding voice and with an angry tone.

But that is not all- the key to let your dog understand what you mean is to associate that command NO! to something so that it becomes comprehensible to your dog.

For instance, as you say "NO!", wave your index finger in a left and right fashion to indicate your displeasure, making sure he can see your action and hear the angry tone of voice. Or you may wish to make a loud noise, clapping your hands as you say "NO!"

It is by association of the word "NO!" to the angry tone of your voice, to the wave of your index finger or to the loud noise generated by the clapping of your hands that your dog can understand whatever you are trying to teach him.

Give some "time out" to ground your dog after you have reprimanded him for a deed that was unwanted. For example, after you have reprimanded him for digging your herbal patch in the backyard, put him somewhere else as a "time out", grounding him away from the scene of the crime, and let him be alone for a while before you reach for him again. In time, he will understand the time out as a period of punishment, something that he does not enjoy as a result of doing something nasty or against your command.

When you spend time giving your dog obedience training at home, you will draw the best out of your dog. Indeed, you will soon find out why dogs are men's best friends.
